Astral Travel or Crazy Dreams?

Last night I had the most mind-blowing dream. I was flying around like a giant bird (but at a jet-like speed) swooping through cornfields, Amazonian-style forests and over mountains. Bizarrely, people were walking through me at times too. Soaring between clouds gave me an intense sensation of freedom. There was zero fear (unlike the moment before I dropped out of a small plane for a 12,000 feet skydive over Lake Taupo in New Zealand). Instead I felt incredibly liberated. After having this vivid dream, I woke up feeling euphoric, wishing I could turn into an eagle for the day. In my excitement I messaged my healer/painter friend who told me that he regular flies in his dreams and it feels a little like an out of body experience. “It’s also called astral travel” he told me.

I couldn’t resist googling the topic. According to researchers at the International Academy of Consciousness, if you are experiencing flying dreams you are having low lucidity projections of the cosmic consciousness.

When you are having what is known as a lucid dream (which is a vivid dream that feels very real) you are also able to control your participation within this dream-like state. Experts say that a lucid dream is the stage between a dream and an out of body experience (OBE), which is also referred to as astral projection or astral travel.

In a nutshell, astral travelling is when your spirit or soul comes out of your physical body (but is still attached via a silver cord) and flies into different astral planes. Researchers say this is evidence that the human consciousness can separate itself from the human body.

I’m not entirely sure if I was astral travelling, but when I told my mum about it, she looked at me like I’d lost the plot! “Well, if you can astral travel, there’s no need to book that flight to Greece,” she said. “Astral travel will be far cheaper and more eco-friendly!” Well, my mum does have a point!

HOW TO LEARN TO ASTRAL TRAVEL

*Experts say that astral travel requires you to be in a deep state of relaxation. Doing regular meditation can sometimes help to open your third eye which in turn can prepare your mind, spirit and body for such a cosmic journey (add link). Some report that listening to binaural beats is also a helpful tool so enable you to get used to reaching altered states of consciousness.

*Becoming open-minded is key. Once you start dropping your fears and preconceived notions of reality, this prepares you for the right mindset and this in turn makes it easier for you to enter an altered state of consciousness and leave the physical body behind.

*If your body is healthy and in peak physical condition, then this makes it more likely for you to experience astral projection. Eating a clean, vegetarian diet is also recommended. Your mind should also be in a peaceful place.

*Learning to astral project is the same as learning to play a new musical instrument. First it takes a keen interest then it takes practice and dedication. The only way you can end up playing Beethoven in a heartfelt manner on the piano is through passion and commitment. The more we learn, the easier it becomes to learn how to astral project.

*Experienced astral travellers say that before you venture into the astral plane, make sure you are protected and vibrating at a higher frequency. There are many ways to raise your frequency levels including checking listening to high frequency music and eating food which boosts your body’s vibration.

*Being able to astral project is intriguing and fun but not vital if you’re on this path. However, for some it’s a life-changing experience as it helps to confirm the realization that you are more than just your physical body and that your consciousness still remains when you leave this planet. And this is a beautiful realisation.

Happy Travels!
