DETOX DELIGHT OR DETOX FRIGHT?

Detox Delight

Think of ‘detoxing’ and sometimes bizarre concoctions, grapefruit diets and deprivation regimes spring to mind. Thankfully, Detox Delight has a well-balanced philosophy, believing in natural, nutrient-rich food and drink.

The truth is many of us don’t want to faff around in the kitchen blending wheatgrass and pink grapefruit before heading to work, however, we still want to up our intake of raw nutrients. And that’s where companies like Detox Delight come in. They deliver fresh, organic juices straight to your door.

So I sampled:

Juice Delight (five bottles of 500 ml fruit & vegetable juices – designed to cleanse & purify.

Active Delight (two 500ml protein shakes, six 500ml enzyme juices & chlorophyll water) – designed for sporty types.

What do the juices taste like?
Juice Delight entices with sparkling colours and delish sounding ingredients. For instance the Pink Detox contains apple, carrot, beetroot, lime & ginger. But what does it taste like? Refreshingly delicious – even better when you add a couple of ice cubes. Even the green juices are yummy. However, it’s not all about rainbows and the nut milk (containing cashews, filtered water, raw cacao powder, mint & stevia) wasn’t really a delight. It has a slightly odd, bitter taste, however it’s super nutritious. Plus, it’s a million times healthier than cow’s milk. Studies have shown that non-organic milk from intense factory farming is pumped full of hormones and over time is detrimental to our health. Experts have also linked dairy to cancer. It’s far healthier to stick to nut milk.

When it comes to Active Delight, some of the colours aren’t as inviting. Yellow Active is slightly murky although this combo of apple, cucumber, pineapple, mint and lime tastes divine while Green Active (apple, cucumber, swiss chard, fennel, parsley and lemon) awakens your taste buds. On the other end of the spectrum you have Chlorophyll Water (which is essentially filtered water and wheatgrass) and I’m not going to lie, this tastes pretty vile. However, the potent benefits can’t be ignored. Wheatgrass is the king of alkaline foods and so this juice really balances your body’s PH levels, giving your immune system a supersonic boost. Scientists have found that chlorophyll has a healing effect on the body, removing toxins from our blood and creating an alkaline state. When your body is in an alkaline state, cancer and other auto immune diseases cannot develop or thrive. Knowing all this good stuff, I readily drink up the Chlorophyll Water. The words on the bottle, ‘Don’t think – drink!’ are quite apt.

How did I feel after the regime?
I have to say I did feel far more energetic afterwards. My system also felt cleaner. That was the main difference. Knowing that I was also boosting my immunity added an extra feel-good factor. Personally, I wasn’t looking to lose weight, although I’m sure if you want to shed a few pounds in a short time, juice cleansing delivers results.

Final verdict: If you’re working in a stressed out, busy job and feel low in energy with niggling health issues – Detox Delight is a great pick me up. It’s pricey but for those who are time poor and cash rich, it’s the way to go.
