Mindfulness Mondays - passion

Life Coach, Ceri McVittie believes you should go for your dreams today. Life is short and finding your purpose in life is the key…

Passion – What makes you come alive?
Do you feel your life lacks meaning? Are you playing small? Feeling unsatisfied, frustrated, joyless? If the answer to any of these questions is yes then it is likely you are not following your passions or living your life on purpose. Many of us forget what our passions are as we fall into comfort zones and deal with the daily responsibilities of life – work, family and relationships. We also tend to overlook our passions because we have built up fears and limiting beliefs about pursing them and are choosing to neglect them in favour of a safe yet more mundane existence. A common limiting belief is that chasing your passion means you have to make it your full-time career or that it is all you should focus on. Of course this isn’t the case, life’s pleasures are rarely related to your bank balance, however living enthusiastically and full of fervour and aliveness is the key. Studies show that people who live to 100 years of age and are still happy and have vitality, have thing in common: a robust sense of purpose in life.

Finding your passion
Your passions often lead to your purpose. When you find something that interests you intently, grips you and feels right in your soul you know you have found your passion. If you haven’t found yours yet, try to think about what moves you most. Try to let go of what isn’t making you feel alive too. Is your partner encouraging you to blossom to your full potential? Does your career make you smile? Consider what impact you want to have in the world. What do you have a longing for? Pursue some of the things you have been yearning to do and see what makes you buzz! When doing something that truly fulfils you, you will notice an energy that makes you feel alive and an internal resonance, giving you a sense of belonging. We all have passionate energy within us it is just a matter of finding what unlocks it for us.

To live on purpose and to follow your dreams means you are making conscious choices to live more fully and not to settle for the humdrum. This is not necessarily easy, especially if you have responsibilities in life such as a family to feed and a mortgage to pay. However, if you want your quality of life to improve, short-term sacrifices might need to be made, which is more than worth it in the long run. Perhaps you need to cut down on the monthly clothes shop to save for that photography course you have been yearning to do.

Awakening your passionate energy enables you to look at all areas of your life. If you take the same energy and use it when performing any routine tasks in your daily life you may begin to see them from a whole new perspective. When you do pursue things that make you come alive you will feel in the flow of life, doors will open, opportunities will present themselves, and you will feel like your life has more purpose and direction. More joy, happiness and fulfilment will surround you too.

Personally, I feel blessed to be following my passion as a career. Being a coach and helping others transform their lives is something that truly fulfils and motivates me. I had a 14 year career in the corporate world where regularly office politics made me question whether I was making any difference at all. I now receive feedback on a daily basis from clients telling me that I am making positive changes in their lives. For me there is no greater feeling than being able to help others. So believe in yourself and remember it is never too late to live your dream or follow your passion. Don’t let fear or self-limiting beliefs hold you back. Go for it!
