YOGA POSE OF THE WEEK

Emilie Goldstein

The yogi: Emilie Goldstein

The location: Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka

The pose: Supported headstand (aka Sirsasana)

The benefits: By reversing the flow of gravity, this asana flushes nutrients and oxygen to the face, creating a glowing effect. According to world-renowned yoga expert Kathryn Budig, headstands also ease depression and jet lag. If you’re having trouble lifting your body when you flip upside down, practise this inversion against a wall for support.

About the yogi: Emilie is an alignment-based yoga teacher who lives in San Francisco, with her husband Marc and their son. After undergoing spinal surgery, Emilie thought she’d never be able to move the way she wanted again. However, eight years later, and she has learned to be patient, and accept/love her body. Now, the French yogi is stronger than ever. Inspired by her own experience, she enjoys empowering people beyond their perceived limitations. “When I see a student leave the class more aware of his or her posture, or looking a little taller, nothing beats that,” says Emilie. Besides yoga, Emilie has a passion for off-the-beaten-track adventures, dark chocolate and The Vampire Diaries.
